UPEI Volleyball Gear up for Halifax Open
The UPEI Women's Volleyball Team is in Halifax this weekend to play in the Halifax Open tournament at the Canada Games Centre.
Despite it being reading week at the University, head coach Kevin MacAdam is pleased that all players are available to play. "The decision by the players to interrupt their February break and travel to Halifax for this tournament shows their commitment, both to the volleyball team and to the University," said MacAdam. "We've worked really hard this year, and with only three players returning from last year, the dedication and effort of the new players has been tremendous. We're unsure what to expect in Halifax, as our division will include Maritime senior women's teams, made up mostly of former AUS and ACAA players. Having said that, if the team plays as hard as they've been practicing, we should be fine," added MacAdam. "Sam Gerbig, who recently transferred to UPEI from Memorial, continues to impress us. While not very tall, she's a very strong hitter, particularly out of the back court".
The tournament begins Saturday morning, with the cross-overs and playoffs scheduled for Sunday.
