The UNB Reds proved why they are the No. 1 team yet again, putting on an offensive clinic against the UPEI Panthers on the road.
The first period was close as the Reds only lead 1-0 after Jorja Nystrom buried her own rebound at the 12:12 mark.
Even though the Reds were up, the Panthers actually led 8-5 in shots after 20 minutes.
Then the second period happened.
The Reds lit the lamp four times in the second period, extending their leading to 5-0. Lauren Carter started scoring at the 7:01 mark on a cross ice pass from Tamina Kehler in which she beat Sarah Forsythe.
The third and fourth goals of the night for the Reds came from Melanie Drost. After tonight's game Drost is tied for the team lead in playoff points at four (2G, 2A).
After a couple more goals and a goalie change from UPEI, Nystrom got her second of the game on a beautiful tip that fooled Shaylin McFarlane.
The Reds didn't let up in the third period, adding another two goals. Carter added her second of the night at the 3:05 mark. Less than two minutes later, Sydney Oitomen added UNB's seventh goal.
Up 7-0, the Reds coasted the rest of the way and allowed a late goal by UPEI's Taylor Gillis to make the final score 7-1.
The Reds can close out the series and move onto the AUS finals Sunday with a win on the road while the Panthers will look to force Game 5.
