UPEI Athletics and Recreation celebrates outstanding student-athletes.

The UPEI Panthers will have to wait another year to “tame the beast,” a.k.a. the Saint Mary’s University Huskies.

The regular season didn’t go as planned for the UPEI Panthers, but the playoffs offer a clean slate where anything can happen.

The UPEI Panthers (9-19-0-2) concluded a tough 2024-25 regular season campaign with a 4-2 loss to the Moncton Aigles Bleus (19-8-2-0) on Friday night at the MacLauchlan Arena, finishing another season series winless.

This season, it wasn’t meant to be for the UPEI Panthers (7-14-0-2) against the Acadia University Axemen (13-13-1-1), who entered Saturday’s Alumni Night game at the MacLauchlan Arena looking to finally triumph against Acadia after losing the last four attempts.

Every week, UPEI Athletics and Recreation recognizes student-athletes for their achievements and contributions to their respective sports. The UPEI Panthers Source for Sports Athletes of the Week for January 27 to February 2, 2025, are Alaere Peterside (women’s track and field) and Jakob Robillard (men’s hockey).

Despite flying out of the gates with playoff-style intensity and taking advantage of the return of their head coach and two captains, the UPEI Panthers (7-14-0-1) had a crucial opportunity slip out of their hands against the Saint Mary’s University Huskies (14-8-2-0) on Friday night at the MacLauchlan Arena, allowing six goals in the final two periods and ultimately losing 6-4.

After a dramatic and resilient home-ice win the previous night, the UPEI Panthers (7-13-0-1) were unsuccessful in keeping the momentum going in front of their fans on Saturday, falling 5-2 to the second-place St. Francis Xavier University X-Men (13-7-1-1) at the MacLauchlan Arena.

The UPEI Panthers (7-12-0-1) rallied explosively after an ugly start against the Dalhousie Tigers (3-19-0-0), avoiding an upset with a four-goal burst in the third period en route to an emotional, high-intensity 7-4 win at the MacLauchlan Arena on Friday.

The UPEI Panthers men’s hockey team (6-12-0-1) remain winless against the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus (11-6-2-0) after a 3-1 loss in their return to Atlantic University Sport (AUS) regular season action at the MacLauchlan Arena on Wednesday.

A new year brings a fresh opportunity for the still-young UPEI Panthers men’s hockey team (6-11-0-1) to turn the tide and make the 2024-25 Atlantic University Sport (AUS) season one to remember rather than forget.

Every week, UPEI Athletics and Recreation recognizes student-athletes for their achievements and contributions to their respective sports. The UPEI Panthers Athletes of the Week for November 25–December 1, 2024, are Devon Lawlor (women’s basketball) and Kaleb Pearson (men’s hockey).

The UPEI Panthers cruised to a 5-1 victory over the Dalhousie Tigers on Saturday night.

Ethan Burroughs and Dallas Farrell put on a clinic Friday night, combining for five goals and seven points as the St. FX X-Men overpowered the UPEI Panthers 6-1.

The University of Prince Edward Island congratulates the 101 student-athletes who earned U SPORTS Academic All-Canadian (AAC) status for the 2023–2024 season. This number represents 52 per cent of UPEI’s 194 varsity student-athletes.
Goals from Jérémy Michel and Jeremy Lapointe in the shootout, combined with two crucial saves by goaltender Nathan Darveau, lifted the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus to a 3-2 victory over the UPEI Panthers Saturday night.
