Sea-Hawks playoff bound after defeating Panthers 85-72
The Memorial Sea-Hawks (7-12) defeated the UPEI Panthers (3-16) 85-72 at the Field House in St. John’s Saturday afternoon.
(ST. JOHN'S, NL.)—The Memorial Sea-Hawks (7-12) defeated the UPEI Panthers (3-16) 85-72 at the Field House in St. John's Saturday afternoon.
The Sea-Hawks were quick out of the gate, leading the Panthers 26-18 after the 1st quarter. Nathan Barker led the Sea-Hawks with 10 points in the opening frame. Glen Cox led the Panthers with 6.
The Sea-Hawks continued the pressure during the 2nd quarter, outscoring the Panthers 25-13. Cole Long and Nathan Barker led the Sea-Hawks at half with 15 points each. Glex Cox had 9 points for the Panthers. The Sea-Hawks held a 51-31 lead at halftime.
The 3rd quarter was tight, with the Panthers edging the Sea-Hawks 22-21. The Sea-Hawks held a 72-53 going into the 4th. Nathan Barker led the Sea-Hawks with 19 points through 3, while Cole Long led the team with 12 rebounds. Glen Cox had 14 points and 6 rebounds for the Panthers.
The Sea-Hawks kept the pressure on through the 4th quarter, and downed the Panthers 87-76.
The Panthers were led by Glen Cox who finished with 16 points and 8 rebounds. Emmanuel Ndatuje was close behind with 12 points and 4 rebounds.
Memorial was led by Nathan Barker, who notched 20 points and added 4 rebounds. Cole Long was next in line with 19 points, and a game high 14 rebounds. Deng Ring also tallied 15 points for the Sea-Hawks.
This marks the end of the regular season for both teams. The Sea-Hawks finish 5th in AUS Standings and will travel to Halifax this weekend for the AUS Basketball Championships. UPEI finishes last and miss the playoffs.
