Panthers add Dut to frontcourt
The UPEI Panthers have added some size and toughness to their frontcourt.
The UPEI Panthers have added some size and toughness to their frontcourt.
Men's basketball head coach Tim Kendrick announced Thursday the addition of Dut Dut, a six-foot-six forward from Ottawa. He played for former Panthers assistant coach Patrick Havard at Crandall University in 2014-15 in the Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association.
"He looks like he's been cut out of a stone," Kendrick told The Guardian. "He's real strong, real muscular, a good rebounder."
Dut, who is projected as a four, can also stretch the floor with his shooting. He averaged 13 points in 18 games last season and had a 37-point, 19-rebound game.
Dut, who is enrolled in the bachelor of arts program, has two years of eligibility remaining and can play right away.
"We are very pleased to add this talented piece to our roster," Kendrick said.
The Panthers have had guard depth in the past, but has not had the same luxury in the frontcourt. It was not as simple as going to get the tallest players available, Kendrick said, noting the team was also looking for players it felt fit their up-tempo system.
"It's nice to be big, but not at the expense of not being able to play the way we want," Kendrick said. "We want big guys who can play; big guys who are agile and athletic."
UPEI is coming off a second-place finish in the regular season after three straight third-place finishes.
Kendrick hinted there were a couple other "big" announcements coming to finalize their roster for the season.
