Debbie White-Lamont
Debbie White was the backbone of the UPEI field hockey team in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Her teammates always referred to her as the gritty one, and that grit and determination paid off. White was the first UPEI field hockey player to be selected as a CIAU All-Canadian, and she showed players who followed how to do it.
To be selected as an All-Canadian performer once in a career is the dream of every university student-athlete. UPEI field hockey star Debbie White exceeded those dreams in a big way, being named an amazing four consecutive times during her UPEI career from 1987 to 1991.
Naturally, White also collected four AUAA All-Conference awards, and was named UPEI’s Female Athlete of the Year. White was also nominated for Sport PEI Athlete of the Year in 1990 and 1991.
Setting a standard that has not been touched before or since, White is now a member of the UPEI Sport Hall of Fame.
