Panthers outlast Axewomen in high-scoring affair
The UPEI Panthers (4-1) outlasted the Acadia Axewomen (1-3-1) on Friday night at Raymond Field in a high-scoring match, winning 31-29.
WOLFVILLE, NS—The UPEI Panthers (4-1) outlasted the Acadia Axewomen (1-3-1) on Friday night at Raymond Field in a high-scoring match, winning 31-29.
Panthers player of the game Emily Duffy scored the opening and final trys of the game for UPEI, with the game-tying try coming in the 75th minute. The clinching convert came off the foot of Charlotte Branchflower, who kicked her third of the game to put her team ahead by two points late.
Acadia led early, with UPEI taking the lead 19-17 just before the half with a try by Lauren Misener.
The Axewomen and Panthers traded the lead four times in the second half, with Duffy's try being the offensive cap on the night.
Next weekend Acadia hosts the Saint Mary's Huskies on Saturday for their Homecoming match. Kick-off is 2 p.m. at Raymond Field.
UPEI and STFX meet on Friday night in Antigonish for their final conference matches of the year.
