Struggling & Battered… Injury Report… Men’s League.
A tough weekend for the Panthers
Another tough weekend for us at UNB. We have had a couple of nice victories there over the past few years, but even those games were rough and physical affairs. I was not at all pleased with our play in the Friday night game. I did not think that we played very well as a unit at either end of the floor. I thought we were better Saturday night, but still not up to our expectations. We are definitely struggling right now, and after two straight losses and sitting at 1-3 in league play, we know we all have to get better. Our coaching staff has put in a lot of work over the past 24 hours, and we 100% believe that our team will respond to this adversity that we have all created for ourselves. We have great chemistry throughout our entire squad, and we will all work to turn this thing around! We are looking to make some subtle changes to our regular rotation, in an effort to help us start games better, and to make us a bit deeper in our current situation due to injuries. Our entire team is looking forward to practice today!
Kevin Douillette is our new student trainer, and he has done a phenomenal job so far with our group. He is hard working, and really strives to help us win in any way that he can. Unfortunately for us, he has been way too busy. As most of you know, Lorenzo Parker and Jake Kendrick are both out until after Christmas. Some of the best news that we have gotten recently is that Lorenzo is very close to returning to practice, maybe even as soon as next week. Nine minutes into Friday's game, Tyler Scott suffered a fairly serious hip contusion/pointer, and is scheduled to meet with our medical team today. At this point, there is no time table on his return. Early in Saturday's game, Milorad Sedlarevic sustained a cut over his eye. After being attended to and bandaged, he was able to return. However, near the end of the game he was involved in a huge crash going to the basket and came down hard, injuring his back. He stayed in the game, but in the final minute, took another heavy blow to the same area. At this point, there is no timetable on his return.
Our PEI Sr. Men's Basketball League tipped off yesterday. We are very pleased to be running this league! Due to the great work of my Ass't. Coaches Jon Lane and Marvin Rhyno, please check out our new league website at: www.recleague.net/peimensbball. Former Caper and Charlottetown native Ryan Keliher plays in the league. I tell everyone that will listen that I think that Ryan is even better now than he was at CBU. In his first game yesterday, against solid competition from some former college and university players, his line was; 45 points, 10 rebounds, & 8 assists!
