Reading With Pride
The UPEI Panthers & Vogue Optical have teamed up to promote literacy in elementary schools through the "Reading with Pride" program.
In its inaugural year there were over forty UPEI Panther student athletes who visited seven elementary schools (Central Queens, Prince Street, Sherwood, Spring Park, Stratford, West Kent and West Royalty) on a weekly basis to read with students.
The program looks slightly different at each school. Some focus on one on one reading or readinf to small groups or classes, while others include supports with writing and math skills. In general, "Reading with Pride" enhances literacy skills, increasing students enjoyment and confidence in reading.
It has been an extremely enjoyable and beneficial program for the UPEI Student Athletes, as well as the teachers and students at each of the participating schools.
