Atlantic University Sport releases 2022-23 winter sports schedules
Atlantic University Sport released its 2022-23 winter sports schedules for basketball, hockey, swimming, track and field and volleyball, as well as the hosts for the 2023 Subway AUS winter championships for these sports.
(HALIFAX, N.S.)—Atlantic University Sport released its 2022-23 winter sports schedules for basketball, hockey, swimming, track and field and volleyball, as well as the hosts for the 2023 Subway AUS winter championships for these sports.
Women's and men's basketball
The 2022-23 AUS men's and women's basketball seasons are set to begin on Wednesday, October 26, when the reigning champions, the Acadia Axewomen, head to Antigonish to visit the STFX X-Women at 6 pm. The Axemen and X-Men's match-up will follow at 8 pm.
The Dalhousie Tigers—three-time defending champs on the men's side—get their start on Friday, October 28 when they visit the UNB REDS; Game time is 8 pm, following the same match-up on the women's side at 6 pm.
The fall portion of the schedule wraps up on Saturday, November 26, with teams returning to the hardwood for the second half on Friday, January 6. Regular season play finishes on Saturday, February 23.
The Subway AUS Basketball Championships return to the Scotiabank Centre once again in 2023, with the top six teams competing for the conference title from February 24 to 26.
The AUS women's basketball champions will head to the 2023 U SPORTS championship, hosted by Cape Breton University from March 10 to 12, while the conference winners on the men's side will compete for a national title at STFX over the same dates.

Women's hockey
The 2022-23 AUS women's hockey season begins on Friday, October 7 when all eight teams return to the ice at 7 pm—Mount Allison at Dalhousie, Saint Mary's at STFX, UNB at St. Thomas and UPEI at Moncton. The 2022 AUS women's hockey champions, the UNB REDS, will play their first home game the following night when they host Moncton.
Fall semester play wraps up on Friday, December 2, with the winter semester getting underway on Wednesday, January 4.
After regular-season competition finishes on February 11, the top six teams will move on to post-season play. This will feature three rounds of playoff series with the top two seeds receiving byes into the semifinal round. The quarter-finals will follow a best-of-three format while the semifinals will be a best-of-five series. The 2023 AUS women's hockey champion will be determined by a best-of-three championship final series.
Both AUS finalists will receive berths in the 2023 U SPORTS championship, which will be hosted by Université de Montréal from March 16 to 19.

Men's hockey
AUS men's hockey fans can look forward to a Wednesday, October 5 start date for the 2022-23 season, that's when six of seven teams will face off for the first time. The defending AUS champs, the UNB REDS, open their season at home on Friday, October 7 when they host the UPEI Panthers at 7 pm.
The fall competition schedule finishes on Saturday, December 3 with teams taking the ice again on Wednesday, January 4.
The final regular-season games of 2022-23 will be played Saturday, February 11, and will be followed by a pair of best-of-three quarter-final series. The two top-seeded teams will receive a bye to the semifinal round, which will feature two best-of-five series.
The two semifinal winners will meet in a best-of-three series for the 2023 AUS men's hockey championship final. Both finalists will earn berths at the U SPORTS Men's Hockey Championship, hosted by UPEI March 16 to 19.

Women's and men's swimming
The 2022-23 AUS swimming season opens on the October 15-16 weekend, when the UNB REDS host the first meet of the year, the Amby Legere Invitational. Two weeks later, men's and women's swim teams will head to Acadia University for the Jack Scholz Invitational Meet on October 29 and 30.
The Dalhousie Tigers get their turn to play host on the weekend of November 25-27, when the Kemp-Fry Invitational takes over the Dalplex pool to finish off the fall semester.
Teams regroup in the new year with a series of dual meets: on January 14 Acadia and Memorial University visit Dalhousie while UNB heads to Mount Allison. The following weekend, Mount Allison will visit the UNB REDS for a rematch on January 21.
The 2023 Subway AUS Swimming Championships will be hosted by Memorial University in St. John's, Newfoundland from February 10 through 12. The country's top swimmers will meet at t U SPORTS Swimming Championships from February 24 to 26, but the location of that event is still to be determined.

Women's and men's track and field
The 2022-23 AUS women's and men's track and field season gets underway on Saturday, November 19 in Saint John, New Brunswick when the UNB REDS host the first meet of the semester.
Track and field athletes will head to Université de Moncton (December 17 and January 14), back to UNB Saint John (January 27-29) and to Saint Mary's (February 11) to round out their regular season competition schedule.
The UNB REDS will play host to the 2023 AUS Track and Field Championships in Saint John, New Brunswick on Friday, February 24 and Saturday, February 25. The top athletes from the AUS will compete with the country's best from March 9 to 11 at the U SPORTS Track and Field Championships, hosted by the University of Saskatchewan.

Women's volleyball
AUS women's volleyball returns on Friday, October 28 with two big match-ups: the UNB REDS visit the Acadia Axewomen at 7 pm and the Saint Mary's Huskies visit cross-town rivals and defending champions the Dalhousie Tigers at 7 pm.
The Memorial Sea-Hawks will close the fall semester when they host the AUS league tournament, welcoming teams to St. John's from November 18 through 20. Volleyball action gets back underway on Friday, January 12.
AUS women's volleyball playoffs will follow the regular season, which wraps up on Saturday, February 18. The two best-of-three semi-final playoff series will feature the top four teams from the regular season standings (fourth place at first place and third place at second place). The winners of the semi-final series will meet in a best-of-three championship final series, played at the home of the top remaining seed.
The AUS women's volleyball champions will head to the University of British Columbia from March 17 to 19 for the 2023 U SPORTS Women's Volleyball Championship.

Women's and men's curling
The 2023 Subway AUS Curling Championships will be hosted by UNB at the Capital Winter Club in Fredericton, New Brunswick. The date of this event is to be determined.
