Panther Corrigan trying out for national team
UPEI Panther student-athlete Alysha Corrigan, will be trying out for team Canada
UPEI Panther student-athlete Alysha Corrigan will be trying out Saturday for the team that will compete at the World University 7s Games in Swansea, Wales July 6-9. Corrigan was named a non-travelling reserve last year for the Canadian team at the Commonwealth Youth Games in Samoa.
The UPEI fullback is also looking to return to the Canada under-20 team again this summer.
"Alysha is a powerful player who is fast and agile," said Shannon Atkins, who coached her the past two seasons at UPEI and is Prince Edward Island's female high performance identifier.
She added Corrigan's skills, including her ball-handling ability, have really improved during the past year.
Corrigan, who was named UPEI co-female athlete of the year with basketball's Katie Donahoe earlier this year, will play for P.E.I. at the Eastern Canadian championships. Following that tournament and the Canadian Rugby Championships, a team will be chosen to go on tour in Nottingham, England, with games on Aug. 18, 22 and 26.
