Long shines, Sea-Hawks complete sweep of Panthers
In the regular season finale, the Memorial Sea-Hawks (8-8) were able to come away victorious by a final score of 88-78 over the UPEI Panthers (7-7). This featured the last regular season games with the Sea-Hawks for seniors Cole Long, Nathan Barker and Daniel Foo, all were celebrated for their great careers before game time.
St. John's, NL—In the regular season finale, the Memorial Sea-Hawks (8-8) were able to come away victorious by a final score of 88-78 over the UPEI Panthers (7-7). This featured the last regular season games with the Sea-Hawks for seniors Cole Long, Nathan Barker and Daniel Foo, all were celebrated for their great careers before game time.
The first half didn't offer much separation between the two teams, at halftime the Sea-Hawks held a slight 43-40 advantage on the scoreboard. However, in the third quarter the floodgates would open, and the Sea-Hawks would conclude the 3rd quarter with a 74-60 lead, thanks to 31 points in the 3rd frame. Then the Sea-Hawks, led by head coach Ian Coultas would grind the fourth quarter out and walk away with their 8th win of the season.
Cole Long led the way for the home team, contributing in all facets of the game, finishing with a game-high 24 points, 9 rebounds, 8 assists, and 2 blocks. The Sea-Hawks star was extremely efficient too, going 11-17 from the field and dominating on the inside. Jason Thompson finished the game with 13 points and 5 assists, consistently pushing the pace of the offence, and looking extremely comfortable in the mid-range. Daniel Foo and Flynn Boardman-Raffet both finished with 12 points and were efficient when taking shots. The Sea-Hawks shot with great efficiency throughout the game, shooting at a 59.3% clip from the field, they were able to create good looks with great ball movement.
The Panthers had some good performances from some of their key starters, led by Glen Cox's 18 points, they were able to stay within striking range for the majority of the game. Dakelle Brooks and Jonas Kessler were also extremely active at the offensive end, both finishing with 17 points on the afternoon. Off the bench, Isaiah Ankra was able to contribute 11 points to the Panther's cause.
Both teams will be looking to capture the AUS championship, which takes place next week from March 17-20 at the Scotiabank Centre in Halifax.
