Aigles Bleues force Game 3 with 1-0 win over Panthers
The Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues (1-1) have forced a third and decisive game to be played in Charlottetown on Tuesday evening in the second match of the Subway Atlantic University Sport women’s hockey best-of-three quarter-finals against the University of Prince Edward Island Panthers (1-1) with a 1-0 win on Sunday afternoon at the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena.

A goal by Samantha McLaughlin (unassisted), at 5:41 of the middle period, proved to be the winner and the only one of the game. Subway player of the game, goaltender Audrey Berthiaume, handled all 32 shots to register her shutout and enable the Aigles Bleues to tie the series at 1-1. Goaltender Camille Scherger made 28 saves in a losing cause for the visitors. The third game will be played Tuesday at 7p.m. in Charlottetown. The Panthers were 0 for 5 on the power play and the Aigles Bleues, 0 for 4.
The game was fast paced with intense moments as each team knew the value of the game, Moncton wanting to remain alive and UPEI looking to finish the series. Moncton came out like a lion, leading 6-1 on shots on goal. There was no first or third period scoring. The Panthers did add a sixth attacker for more than a minute at the end of the third, but Moncton was able to counter all efforts.
