Tracy McGee
Islander Tracy McGee came to UPEI in the fall of 1993 and continued for five years with a storybook Field Hockey career.
In her first year she played with role model Kathy McNally who is a UPEI Sport Hall of Fame Inductee, Krista Munroe and Anne Mamye. She went on to become the role model, in her second year winning the most dedicated award and then she won three straight Panther female athlete of the year honours while being named first team CIAU All-Canadian three times and was the co-winner of the national Gail Wilson player-of-the-year award in 1997-98.
In 1998 she also won the CIS Gail Wilson award, presented to the intercollegiate field hockey player combining outstanding skills while being an exemplary role model and promoter in the sport.
McGee has always been very humble with her success and many times made sure that everyone knew how important her teammates were o her success.
In addition to all the athletic awards, Tracy was successful in the classroom earning three Academic All Canadian awards. McGee was quoted back in 1998 "I consider that one of my better achievements. Like any student-athlete knows, it's hard to balance work, athletics and school work but my attitude is if I have to do it, I might as well do it well. And that is what motivated me through most of my studies. Looking back now, I'm glad I put the effort into it because the rewards were, obviously, immense for me."
After having a successful career as a player McGee along with former teammate Jana Parker coached the UPEI Panthers for five years.
To add to her collection, McGee was also chosen the 1998 Sport P.E.I. top senior female athlete and Lieutenant Governor's award winner.
She graduated in 1997 with a Bachelor of Science and then continued on for two years to earn her Education degree and now teaches in PEI.
