Sea-Hawks beat Panthers in tight battle
The Memorial Sea-Hawks (3-5-2) came out victorious in a hard-fought battle by a score of 1-0 versus the UPEI Panthers (1-6-2) on a beautiful night in St. Johns, Newfoundland.
ST. JOHN'S, NFLD—The Memorial Sea-Hawks (3-5-2) came out victorious in a hard-fought battle by a score of 1-0 versus the UPEI Panthers (1-6-2) on a beautiful night in St. Johns, Newfoundland.
In what was a pivotal game for both teams in terms of playoff positioning, the Sea-Hawks were able to get out to an early lead in the 12th minute thanks to a strike by Kate Hickey assisted by Claire Langille. The duo of Hickey and Langille were strong for the Sea-Hawks throughout this evenings match. There were plenty of opportunities for both sides throughout the first half of action, with the Sea-Hawks leading in shots 10-7. Sea-Hawks goalkeeper Sydney Walsh stopped all 5 shots directed her way in the opening 45, maintaining her stellar play thus far this season.
Heading into a big second half for the UPEI Panthers, they tried their best to push past the Sea-Hawks back line, however, despite their efforts they weren't able to break through, despite registering 3 shots on net. Sea-Hawks defender Jamie King led the attack with 3 shots on target, with Claire Langille and her fast pace firing 2 shots on net. While Panthers striker Patrycia Kozak was causing problems in the offensive end, registering 2 shots on net for the Panthers cause.
Thanks to her game-winning goal earlier in the game, Kate Hickey took home the player of the game honours. The two teams take to the field 1:00 PM NST for the series finale at King George V Park.
