Penner's third-period goal leads Panthers to 2-1 win over Aigles Bleues
Avery Penner's power-play goal at 2:59 of the third period proved to be the winner as the University of Prince Edward Island Panthers defeated the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues 2-1 on Saturday evening.
MONCTON, NB—Avery Penner's power-play goal at 2:59 of the third period proved to be the winner as the University of Prince Edward Island Panthers defeated the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues 2-1 on Saturday evening.
Penner, her team's player of the game, took possession of a loose puck in front of the opposing goal during a scramble and sent it onto the ice in the net. Anjali Simms tied the game 1-1 in the second period at 18:24 on another power play. Erica Plourde had given the Aigles Bleues a 1-0 lead in their nest at 6:26 of the first. Molly Collin, the Aigles Bleues goaltender and player of the game, faced 32 (9-13-10) shots while Erin Cabaday saw 25 (8-9-8) shots.
The Panthers were 2-for-3 on the power play and the Aigles Bleues 0-for-2. The Saint Mary's University Huskies and the St. Francis Xavier University X-Women will visit the Aigles Bleues on Friday and Saturday at the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena. The Mounties visit the Panthers on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
