Bio

Forbes MacPherson fourteenth season as Head Coach of the University of Prince Edward Island Panthers Men’s Hockey Team.
 
The native of Stratford, Prince Edward Island is the eighth Head Coach of Men's Hockey at UPEI. Under his leadership, “Panther Pride” has been restored in the Province of PEI. The Panthers play to sold-out crowds at MacLauchlan Arena and teams have been regularly ranked in the CIS top 10. The Panthers are currently on a run of eleven straight years of making the play-offs, in the ultra competitive AUS Hockey Conference. Forbes has worked to implement a commitment to excellence that includes the development of well-rounded, successful student-athletes. The UPEI Panther's Men's Hockey is very proud to be awarded as host for the 2023 USport National Men's Hockey Tournament!
 
On average annually, ten members of the Panthers have been named U SPORTS Academic All-Canadians. Dozen of his players have moved on to play in professional leagues, including KHL, AHL, ECHL, and many other top leagues in Europe. Forbes had a successful hockey career at the university and professional levels for many years. As a player, he competed in the AUS conference as a member of the University of New Brunswick from 1991 to 1993 and as a member of the University of Prince Edward Island Panthers from 1994 to 1996.
 
Following his graduation, Forbes played professional hockey in a number of leagues including CHL, ECHL, and AHL. He was CHL Rookie of the Year in 1997 and was a CHL All-Star. From 2000 to 2007, Forbes added the responsibilities of Assistant Coach to his playing duties as a member of the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs. Following his playing days, Forbes served as Assistant Coach and Assistant Director of Hockey Operations for the Texas Brahmas in the CHL. Forbes was also selected, and won Gold Medal, as Team Canada Associate Coach at the 26th Winter World University(FISU) Games.
 
Forbes holds a Bachelor of Physical Education and Recreation Degree from the University of New Brunswick as well as a Public Administration Diploma from the University of Prince Edward Island. He resides in Stratford with his wife Amy and their children Owen and Hayden.
