Bio

Born, raised and residing in Charlottetown, PEI. Josh Whitty has been heavily involved in Basketball on Prince Edward Island as a player, coach and administrator for 20+ years.

Prior to joining the Panthers coaching staff,  Whitty was the Head Coach at Holland College from 2013-2022 (after serving as the assistant coach from 2008-2013). As the Head Coach, Whitty led the Hurricanes to 6 ACAA Championships and 3 CCAA National Medals, while compiling a 162-28 overall record. As the Head Coach of the Hurricanes, the program remained ranked in the top 10 of the CCAA’s National Ranking each week including being ranked as the #1 team in the CCAA multiple times (a first for an ACAA Men’s Team). He was awarded the CCAA National Coach of the Year award in 2018 and was named the ACAA Coach of the Year on three occasions (2016, 2018 and 2019).

Whitty has also been the Head Coach of Basketball PEI’s U13, U15 and U17 Boys teams on multiple occasions. He has coached at the Junior High and High School levels of play for a number of years and has been the President of the Stratford Minor Basketball Association. In 2016, Whitty was named Sport PEI’s Coach of the Year. He is also currently the Executive and Technical Director for Basketball PEI.
