Panthers score early and often against Bengals
The UPEI Panthers continued their winning ways at the Mickey Place tournament this weekend with an 84-65 win over University of Maine Fort-Kent Bengals.
The UPEI Panthers continued their winning ways at the Mickey Place tournament this weekend with an 84-65 win over University of Maine Fort-Kent Bengals.
The Panthers began the game on a 14-0 run where they were all over the Bengals, and shooting with consistency. The Bengals were able to get on the board late in the first quarter, and they found themselves down 27-13 after the first. Each team were equal in the second quarter scoring 15 points each, bringing the score to 42-28 at recess.
UPEI came out of half time firing on all cylinders starts the third on a 18-4 run which seen their lead extend to 66-42 heading into the fourth quarter.
The Panthers were outscored in the fourth quarter 23-18, however, it wasn't enough for the Bengals as they fell to the Panthers 84-65.
The Bengals were led by the scoring of Travis Harlin Jr. Harlin Jr, went 7-19 from the field and 8-12 from the free throw line, and finishing with 22 points. The Bengals were only able to muster 11 points off the bench.
For the Panthers, they were able to put together a well balanced attack with two starters scoring double digits, including two more off the bench. Panther veteran, Milorad Sedlarevic went 4-8 from the field and was money from the charity stripe going 4-4, finishing with 15 points. Veteran, Samy Mohamed led the scoring off the bench with 14 points, including 3-5 from three point land.
The Panthers finish their Mickey Place Tournament on Sunday, at 2pm against the Mount Allison Mounties. While the Bengals take on the Cape Breton Capers at 12pm.
