MacKinnon joins the Worcester Railers HC after spending the last three seasons with UPEI
WORCHESTER, MA - The Worcester Railers Hockey Club, proud East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) affiliate of the New York Islanders, and Railers HC General Manager and Head Coach Jamie Russell officially announced today (Feb. 26th) that the club has signed defenseman Ryan MacKinnon to an ECHL contract.
MacKinnon joins the Worcester Railers HC after spending the last three seasons with the University of Prince Edward Island, where he recorded 12 goals and 36 assists for a total of 48 points in 82 games for UPEI.
The six-foot 185lb defenseman spent four seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) prior to attending UPEI. While in the QMJHL, he played three seasons for the Rimouski Oceanic, was named the captain in his '13-'14 season and recorded 10 goals, 47 assists for a total of 57 points in 188 games. MacKinnon played one season with the Charlottetown Islanders, was named the captain, and put up 10 goals and 40 assists for a total of 50 points in 64 games.
"The Railers are excited to have Ryan make his professional debut with the club," said Russell. "We look forward to working with him as he develops his game for the next level."
The 23-year-old native of Summerside, Prince Edward Island MacKinnon will join the Railers for their game in Brampton on Tuesday, and wear #4 on the blueline.
